An important order

The British airline, a member of the IAG group, has announced a purchase commitment for 18 Boeing 777X and 24 options. This future order includes a plan to modernize its fleet. The new 777-9 aircraft "is the most fuel-efficient long-haul aircraft in the world and will bring many benefits to British Airways' fleet. It is the ideal replacement for the 747 and its size and range will fit perfectly into the company's existing network," said Willie Walsh, IAG's Managing Director, in a statement.

A modernized fleet

British Airways continues to renew its fleet with 10 A321neo ordered, 12 Boeing 787-9s and 18 Airbus A350-1000s. The airline currently owns 34 Boeing 747-400s, making British Airways the largest jumbo jet operator. They will be replaced in 2024-2025. This aircraft "will offer additional savings and environmental benefits through improvements in fuel costs per seat of 30% over the 747. It will also offer an improved passenger experience," says the IAG director. This will allow the British airline to continue its major global routes, serving the largest megacities.
