In 2020, SpaceX is scheduled to begin the first crew rotations to the International Space Station. This will be a giant leap for the American company. In the meantime, it offers a computer-generated video showing what it will look like.

The crew of two astronauts board the Dragon 2 capsule, then there is the separation of the first floor and the spacecraft, the approach manoeuvre to the International Space Station and docking. Then, after a few weeks, it's time for the return trip. Once on board, the astronauts witness the detachment of the capsule and its return to Earth, slowed down gradually thanks to parachutes in particular.

In December 2019, the SpaceX company carried out the 10th test of the Dragon capsule. The mission ended as planned even if there were difficulties in putting it into orbit at the beginning.

SpaceX plans an emergency in-flight ejection test of the Dragon Crew for January 11, 2020. In the first quarter, the company hopes to make the first manned flight, which should bring astronauts to the ISS.

The 8.23-metre high Dragon Crew spacecraft consists of two subassemblies. The top of the spacecraft consists of a truncated cone-shaped capsule, 4.88 metres high with a maximum diameter of 3.96 metres. Its base is formed by a heat shield that protects the spacecraft during atmospheric re-entry.

Since 2011, NASA has been using Russian Soyuz, after the space shuttles have been withdrawn. Thus, with a competition with various private companies took place. SpaceX was selected in 2016 and received 2.6 billion dollars to develop Falcon 9 and the Dragon capsule.

In parallel, Boeing continues to develop the CST-100 capsule. A contract for 12 flights has been awarded by NASA in 2017 of which 6 will be carried out by the Crew Dragon capsule between 2019 and 2024 (forecast).
