A regional company

In January 1993, Norwegian Air Shuttle was created. This company serves the west coast of Norway in cooperation with Braathens SAFE (which has since become a subsidiary of SAS before disappearing). In 2002, a low cost company is launched. In the years that followed, Norwegian bought Fly Nordic (in 2004), ordered 42 Boeing 737-800 (in 2007) and set up bases in Oslo-Rygge and Copenhagen.

Long-haul development

In 2012, the company placed the largest order in the history of European aviation with 122 Boeing 737s, including 100,737 MAX 8s and 100 Airbus A320s. It also brings to 5 the number of Dreamliner leased from ILFC and launches into the long-haul low-cost market. Continuing this momentum, the company ordered 19 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in 2015. Leased or purchased aircraft allow the opening of new lines. As of July 29, 2016, Norwegian Long Haul operates three routes linking Paris CDG Airport to New York JFK International Airport, Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. Air also uses the new B737MAX from Edinburgh, Belfast, Cork, Shannon and Dublin to Newburgh-Stewart, Providence Airport and Bradley International Airport.

Today, Norwegian uses a fleet of aircraft ranging in size from 737 to 787. By 2018, Norwegian had 31 Boeing 787 Dreamliner, 118 Boeing 737-800 and 14 Boeing 737 MAX fleets.
