A gigantic hub
"Istanbul is now the first passenger transfer point in Europe, which will reshape air travel between the European and Asian continents.This airport will bring people together, bring peace and love to hearts and be of great service to us and the whole world," President Erdogan said on Monday at the inauguration of the world's largest airport. Within ten years, the airport's capacity should even reach 200 million passengers per year, according to its future operator IGA.

A large and well equipped airport
This airport will transfer air traffic from the current Atatürk airport with its 4 runways (2 of 3750 metres and 2 of 4100 metres). It covers an area of nearly 7,659 hectares near Lake Terkos. After several successive stages in the coming years, the airport will have 6 runways, 16 taxiways and 165 passenger bridges spread over 4 terminals.

In these terminals, there are large commercial areas, new check-in areas with new terminals for faster check-in. Large waiting areas will also allow passengers to wait before boarding.
